How did I descover berathwork?

I had my first contact with breathwork at the age of 22. I was in a phase of transition and selfdiscovery. I felt that the scientific career as mathematician only partly gave me meaning in life. I was looking for something deeper. I practiced breathwork with a breathwork teacher regularly for more than a year. The breathwork experience helped me to find clarity about my desires and visions. As a result I decided to become a Shiatsu practitioner.

Years later, I rediscovered the method of breathwork when I got to know my mentor Manuel Peitl. After taking part in several of his breathwork sessions, I decided to do teacher training. I wanted to learn more about the method and be able to guide other people on their own journey of selfdiscovery.

What is breathwork?

The main breating method that we use in a breath journey is called connected breathing. We skip the natural breaks between inhalation and exhalation while breathing deeper than we do in daily life.

This causes more activity in the libmic system. That is the brain area that is responsible for our feelings and emotions. At the same time, the activity of the cerebrum is reduced, which is the part where logic thougts, judgement an catigorization take place.

Thus, in a breath journey we can gain deep insights about ourselves. Memories that are forgotten in our daily life might rise up.

Many people report they had spiritual experiences in a breathwork session. There can be moments of clarity and the feeling of deep connection.

In a breath journey you have the space to be you. You are welcome to feel everything that comes up, no matter what it is.

What is the process of a breathwork session?

Sessions can be done one-on-one or in a group.

A session normally takes two and a half hours including preparation and postprocessing.

The first part consists of a short meditation and other methods that sharpen one's senses.

In the meain part, we preactice the technique of connected breating for around an hour. You will lay on a mat and are invited to close your eyes. The journey is supported by music and if you want, the facilitators will also support you physically.

Limitations of breathwork

Breathwork increases the brain activity. Hence it might cause epileptic seizures for people with seizure disorder. In this case, Breathwork is not recommended.

There is not enough research about breathwork and pregnancy. For safety reasons, breathwork is therefore not recommended for pregnant women.

If you are sick or currently taking drugs (especially painkillers), breathwork is not recommended. In case you are in a therapeutic treatment you have to check if you can do breathwork with your doctor.
